Produced in conjunction with RPI, "Global Villages: The Globalization of Ethnic Display", was an official selection at the XII International Festival of Ethnographic Films held October 25-30 in Sardinia, Italy. The film depicts ethnic theme parks of China and Japan, where official narratives of tradition and history are coded in dances, interactive routines, and artifacts of culture.
"Global Villages" premiered in March 2004 at the East Asia International Visual Anthropology Association meetings at Yunnan University, Kunming, China, and was also shown by invitation at the Hong Kong History Museum, jointly sponsored by the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Anthropological Society.
The video was shot by Bruce Caron, scripted and directed by Tamar Gordon. Erich Schienke did the sound and still photography.
